Lexicon of Buchanan | 2019 | Digital Photography

I am interested in creating visual lexicons of urban architectural spaces. This work is an intuitive interpretation of the grid structures and geometrical devices found in the Buchanan block at the University of British Columbia.

Here I let my camera lense be drawn to the codified mathematical structures, grids, lines, and angles of institutional space. My image making process is one of following, tracing and connecting lines. The pixelated impressions of this space translate material experiences into a database of images that can be analyzed, broken down, and reconstructed.

I am interested in using the repetitive patterns of architectural space (visual lexemes) to expose institutional value systems and challenge (un)conscious compliances towards dictated spatial experiences.
